Welcome to the online home of the A. C. Reynolds Middle School Band Program. I am glad that you
have dropped in to look around. If you don't find what you are looking for, please feel free to contact
me by clicking on the link to my E-mail address at the top of the page.
I'd like to take a moment to tell you a little bit about myself. I started my journey to becoming a band
director in the same school that I am working in now. I joined the A. C. Reynolds Middle School Band
in 1987 as a seventh grader (after attending Bell Elementary).
The first noises I made weren’t very
good, but they allowed me to scare my little sister. That kept me interested long enough to learn how
to make good sounds on my instrument and to discover the joy of making music. When I was in
eighth grade, I came home and told my parents, “I am going to be a band director!”
As I learned more about music from Bill Bryant, my high school director, and numerous other
directors at the many clinics I attended, I became more determined about my career path. Upon
graduating from Reynolds High School, I headed to Mars Hill College where I earned my Bachelor of
Music Education degree.
My first teaching job was in Robbinsville, NC where I spent the year teaching band to students from
fifth to twelfth grades as well as working with a special needs music enrichment class. In 1998, the
opportunity to return to Buncombe County presented itself and I took the job as band director at
Erwin Middle and High Schools. In 2003, I received the opportunity to
return home and become
the band director at the school where my love of music began. I couldn't help but jump at the
chance! It has been exciting for me to become a part of this school and community again, and I look
forward to teaching students in our area about the joys of music for many years to come. Since
I have been recognized as the Reynolds Middle School Teacher of the Year and have
become a National Board Certified Teacher.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two daughters. I can often be
found reading, hiking, cooking, killing too much time on my cell phone, or twisting a mean balloon
